HOW TO SEARCH THE ARCHIVE CATALOGUE
The Catalogue offers a searchable database of the Whitechapel Gallery Archive This Catalogue covers the period from 1882 and is continuously being updated. There are two ways to search the archive catalogue: Keyword Search and Holdings Search.
Keyword Search is available at the top of this page, in the field next to the 'Browse' button.
By selecting 'Whitechapel Gallery Archive' option on the 'Popular This Week' drop down menu,

you will land on the Fonds page. Sub-fonds listed on the left correspond to different Archive holdings: Exhibition Files, Education Files, Director Papers and so on. Please see their description here: https://www.whitechapelgallery.org/whitechapel-gallery-archive-holdings/
The Holding Search is helpful if you know the category you are searching for whereas Keyword Search is more appropriate if you are not familiar with the archive contents and prefer to use keywords. You can also search specifically by using 'Subjects' or 'Places' buttons on the 'Browse By' menu.
